Collage on Canvas

Hiiiii!!! I'm so happy to be getting back to blogging. Been busy with the festive season and a long break last week. I didn't get to do any art work at all and hardly any time to access the Internet!

And now, I'm back with a piece of collage on canvas.I started doing this yesterday night. The papers are from the latest from Prima i.e. Romance Novel. The flowers, the decorative alphabets tape, resin white bird, diecut chipboard stickers are all new from Prima. The measuring tape ribbon and alphabet stamps are from Typo; a shop in Setia Alam Mall, which was recently opened to the public.

And the best part is, I have used Faber Castell's Gelatos on this piece as well!! I have always wanted to get my hands on FC's gelatos when they first introduced it. I've seen people using them on their art journals and they are just awesome! You can't see them so much through the photo, though. I didn't apply the gelatos throughout the piece. They are much like wax crayons only smoother; I guess. Blending? Well, I haven't truly explored that yet. Will do in the next post!

Oh yes, and I have also used India ink to add the black circles on the hot air balloon; just to emphasize. Hehe....

Thanks for stopping by! Do come and visit again soon!

See ya'

Selamat Hari Raya!

Hi there! Haven't been blogging lately 
I've been too busy celebrating eid with the families; helping my mom with the cooking, tidying the house, visiting relatives etc etc. God knows how tired I am! Since the first day of eid, I have been having a flu with mild fever 
How cool is that?!! lol!

Anyways, the holidays is coming to and end. What a blissful week even though it was indeed a very busy and tiring one!  ( wonder if these emoticons will appear in the post!)

So, I'm gonna enjoy for whatsoever days left before the work in the office begins! Haha for that! And hopefully soon, I'll start on my artsy projects again! Yipeee!!

Random Thoughts - a scrapbook layout for Papier

Hi there! Happy Wednesday folks! I just love Wednesday because I get to share my projects at Papier. This week, I'm sharing a 12x12 layout using mostly supplies from my DT kit this month, which also happens to be the supplies for the August kit contest! At just RM75, I get to do my altered book - Not Afraid (posted on 2nd August) and now a 12x12 layout. How cool is that?! And believe it or not; I still have few more to do another project! Lol!!

Most of the papers here are from Graphic45. I have used my distress ink by Ranger to add a reddish tone on the flowery background. Just make sure that whatever colours you choose to add will blend well with the whole layout. I have also used Glitz sticker ( Random Thoughts ) as the focal point of this layout. No photo this time.

Because I have used the patterned paper by G45 Glimpse of Paris with a postcard and stamps design on it; I have decided to add a twine and tie it around the layout. Somehow, it makes the layout looks like something sent through the mail.

Ok. That's all about it. If you bought the same kit, I hope you will have fun with it.

Thanks for stopping by! Ciao!

A Ladies' Diary - a scrapbook layout

Hello there! It's 6:50am. Thought of doing a bit of crafting before Faiz wakes up. He's sleeping soundly after an active night playing with friends and Terawih in this month of Ramadhan. We had a good Tadarus and there were 21 of us reciting the Surahs. After that, the usual chatting amongst us cousins and auntys; catching up with the latest stories, the next trip to Jakarta (lol!), etc etc etc. Anyways, it was a good night.

So today, I would like to share with you a scrapbook layout using papers mostly from Graphic45; except for the base plain cardstock, which is from Bazzil Basics. I just love Graphic45! I think I must have mentioned this before on my previous posting, yes? The vintage, grunge, steampunk theme really tickles my fancy. The photo in this layout was taken during the Eid al Adha in 2011. Sitting at the back are my three auntys and my mom. It's such a lovely photo hence I decided to scrap it using the Ladies' Diary. To tell you the truth, I was quite nervous at first since I really wanted to make good use of the photo as well as the beautiful papers. I had some ideas in my mind but i was just not sure if it would turn out as I wanted.

In the end, it did. Lol!

Materials used:

1) Papers: The papers that I have used here are all from the Ladies' Diary I.e. the Ladies' Diary itself and Timeless Memoir.

2) Wooden Chippie: Sitting Bird and Berry Vine by Kaisercraft

3) Designer Trim by Webster's Pages

4) Metal word band by Tim Holtz

5) Distress ink by Ranger

6) Pearls by Kaisercraft - ( attached to the ends of the metal word band )

7) Crystal Lacquer - a clear dimensional paint/ glue.

Thanks for stopping by! Ciao!

She Belongs - an art journal page

Hi there! I'm back with another art journal page entitled She Belongs. Dunno why but lately, I'm just into art journal. Lol! I've been browsing into a few art journal blogs lately and one of the most interesting ones that I visited was Christy Tomlinson's. I just love her adding a girl figure in most of her art piece. Very cute and inspiring. Then, I decided to do one of my own and here it is. I'm linking this up to Art Journal Cafe for the challenge on Super Power and also Art Journal Everyday at Balzer's Design.
I decided to do her full length, posing by the white sandy beach along with her little best friend. She's wearing a baju kurung; our traditional Malay costume with a one-sided pleated sarong. Her hair is tied into a bun. She's feeling happy being where she is now cos' she feels belong. She's feeling very much like a queen in her own kingdom. { If I was in her place, I think I would too! }
So, here are the things I have used:

1) I sketched the page with a pencil first then applied the paints. I have used a combination of Martha Stewart and also Folk Arts paints in here.

2) for the sandy beach, I have added Martha Stewart white texture paste and mixed it with a light yellowish acryclic paint. Love the grainy sandy texture.

3) I have also used Liquitex gloss gel medium, mixed it with Martha Stewart paint and applied on the girl's dress. I wanted to have some texture on it and this was just perfect.

4) I have also used quite a number of stamps here. They are from My Mind's Eye and Hero Arts.

5) added some journalling onto my scraps, cut it out and paste.

{ I stamped a crown on her head cos that's just what she's feeling now - like a queen! }

{ just love the penny farthing below! }

{ you can see the texture on the girl's dress and the sandy beach above }

I had fun doing this. Can't wait to do another one again soon!!

Thanks for stopping by! Ciao!

Live Life to the Fullest - using Paper ( app )

Hi there! I'm just trying out a new app that I've just installed i.e. Paper by 53. It gives you 5 types of drawing tools including a brush and several colours. What I've done here is mostly using the brush tool on several colours and some highlights using the bold / marker type tool. The girl was initially sketched out using a pencil tool. Once done, I coloured it using the brush. I am OH so not good in drawing!!

I still think that a real hands-on journalling with all your fingers getting dirty is far more exciting. But this app is certainly useful when I'm away from home and inaccessible to all my paints, papers etc etc.

So, next time when you see another post from me using this application, you'll know for sure 2 things:

1) I'm away from home

2) I'm taking a short break from hands-on art journalling. {really??} Lol

Thanks for stopping by! Ciao!

Not Afraid - an altered book { kit contest at Papier! }

Hi there! Welcome August and I'm back with another project on altered book. The kit that I have used here is from the blog kit contest for August at Papier. It contains lots of Graphic 45 papers and they are mostly brown. If you are always intimidated by the dull brown colour of a paper, well, don't be! There are many ways on how you can utilize them and one of it is by doing an altered book.

I have used the Race for Time, Bed of Roses, Elusive Wings, Quote ..and Unquote, Straight to the Point! Glimpse of Paris, Tea for Two and Exquisite Motif; all from Graphic 45 for the pages inside this altered book. I used a suitable sized old book; a flea market finds, and cut all the G45 papers accordingly. I have also dislodged all the original pages inside this book. Not gonna be using that for this project. Perhaps for another altered projects ..hehe. I have punched two holes in the centre of the G45 papers and that will be used to bind the pages together at the spine of the book.

I primed the whole book first with gesso and when dry, I applied Marths Stewart paint ( Adobo; not in the kit) onto it. I need a striking colour for the cover. Then I covered both front and back with a G45 papers. Cut out the quotes; and glued it on the cover to be the title for this book.

Using texture paint, I added a bit of the acrylic paint that came with the kit and then applied on a brick stencil. Because the colour is bright, I have tone it down with distress ink by Ranger once the texture paste is dried. Finally, applied a sealer to the covers. The texture paste, brick stencil, sealer and distress ink are from my own.

I have also used word stickers Teeny Alpha in olive green and also cardstock stickers -afternoon muse journalling by Glitz. They are all in the kit! Wonderful!!

The kit also comes with a paper valance and I have used that as a book closure with Velcro attached to it. Once done, you can use this altered book to add in photos, journalling etcs.

So there you are. There are many projects that you can come up with using this wonderful kit.

I'll be sharing with you in my future posting this month with another project from the same kit. The key is to let your imaginations runs freely and be NOT AFRAID ;))

Come and participate in this blog contest at Papier. Can't wait to see what you'll come up with!

For more details on the contest, terms and conditions; please refer to the contest post at the Papier's blog.

{live as you were to die tomorrow; learn as if you were to live forever}

Thanks for stoping by! Ciao!
